Website
My interest in Web Design, started way back in the year 2005 . I was on holiday in Majorca and immediately befriended this girl named Abbie whom, coincidentally I don’t speak to any more for personal reasons.. don’t think I ever will actually. Anyway, she introduced me into Piczo. Yes Piczo I hate to admit that I had a Piczo site I mean, it’s like saying you despise the highly annoying ‘pop star’ Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, then going out to your nearest supermarket purchasing her latest album. I didn’t just join because my friends had joined that wasn’t the case, bearing in mind that my friends all started their little Piczo Fan club themselves after I had made the account. Don’t worry, I wasn’t part of it.
I found Piczo amazing at first, I thought it was incredible how you could make a decent crap website using the templates pre made by the company. It took me less than a month to build one and then I officially opened it. I know, pass the Champagne bottle/sarcasm. Boy, was I on a high about that! Looking back I feel so very ashamed of myself trust me, my website was atrocious, obscene and possibly.. well shit to be frank. To view it in your own eyes you’d have to be on some hallusinative to even get past the splash page that I put there.. hold up I HAD A SPLASH PAGE?. I am such a hypocrite… and to think I don’t even like splash pages! I see no point in them at all. I cancel the window if I see someone’s site with a splash page on it. I will not view it. I will not change my screen resolution and one of my two web browsers just to suit you. I really shouldn’t cater for myself, you should cater for me. That goes to your visitors as well.
So back to Piczo, I stayed there for a couple of months until I got bored of it and went to Freewebs. And discovered HTML and worked with that. Well, when I say worked I mean just messed around, until I got the hang of it. Then I went on to work with tables and divs, headers and came across the wonderful CSS. I stayed at Freewebs for awhile and didn’t even think of going back to Piczo. People thought I had shut down my site at Piczo but contrary to popular belief, it is still open to this day and no I won’t share out the URL I really should close it.. I will do it at some point.
I was still stuck on Freewebs as the months passed by and I was desperate to have my own subdomain. I sent in my hosting form to a… ‘mutual’ friend of mine (we don’t speak anymore because of involvement with an e-drama thing which I was stupid enough to get in to lets just say I’ve learn from my mistakes) I had my first subdomain for a few months and I was absolutely over the moon to have one. My web design skills were still shite though and I really did need to get my arse in to gear to get the grasp of PHP instead of HTML
I came across www.dinorawr.info on one occasion and Emma offered to host me. We have this connection Emma and I, we’re very fond of Russell Brand, Oasis, Noel Fielding, The Smiths and of course, Morrissey so it worked out well there. I had prettyvacant for a good few months although I had to work with spamnews sorry my mistake, Cutenews.
I left prettyvacant to venture out a bit more, to purchase my first domain. My good friend Charlie whom I speak to quite a lot on MSN chipped in and purchased the domain for me and I honestly cannot thank him enough for it. He also hosts me on his server
.
So here I am today with vintagerobot. The name is nothing special it was picked at random. I don’t regret calling it that specific name but its made me realise that in the future when I purchase another domain, I will name it something that relates to me.
Throughout the years of Web Design, I have used graphic programs such as Corel Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop. Although the use of these programs have since been deceased because my computer had to be re-programmed therefore resulting in losing the disk which contained Adobe Photoshop seeing as I preferred that to Paint Shop Pro. I am now using the GIMP for a graphic source in the near future, I will probably go back to Photoshop but for the moment, I’m happy with the GIMP.
As far as my graphic skills go, I have used celebrity images for my layouts. I know, I know, it’s wrong to take images because you are violating the copyright law. I am bucking up though. I am distancing myself away from the whole ‘celebrity image thing’ and venturing out for better design skills.
I used to use PHP as the main file use for my website but then I grew some balls (methaphorically speaking, I do not mean I grew testicles) I stopped using spamnews and got the grasp of WordPress its took a while, but now I’ve built all of my pages on WordPress and when my site crashes or something or WordPress decides to mess everything up, I simply put all off the page content into a spare folder in my documents. Very handy for emergencies like that. I also mix my designs with CSS (2.1 if I do it originally) and a little bit of XHTML.
